Allowing families to choose, or educators to update, an alternative spoken language is important because it ensures that they are able to communicate effectively and comfortably with their school. Some families may read in one language but are more fluent in speaking another, and having the option to select this alternative language can provide them with better communication with their school, especially in situations where an interpreter is needed.
By having the flexibility to choose an alternative spoken language, families are able to ensure that the language used in their communication with the school is one in which they are most comfortable and able to effectively express their thoughts and concerns.

To update contact preferences, begin clicking the student ID card in the upper right corner:
Search for the student or guardian name and click the pen & paper icon next to the contact to edit:
Select "Alternative Spoken Language" and select the language that person speaks in most comfortably. This will be the language that is used to call interpreters.
Be sure to click save.
